Shaun Brittnum, born on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Chicago public housing, embodies resilience and achievement. Excelling early in citywide writing and mathematics competitions, Shaun ranked among the top three across various categories. His family later relocated to Eastern Arkansas, where he grew up in public housing projects near Memphis, Tennessee, and developed a passion for sports, playing football and basketball through junior high and high school. Shaun’s involvement with BIPOC organizations, such as the NAACP, and his determination to succeed, led him to become the first in his immediate family and neighborhood to graduate high school and attend university. Graduating in the top 10% of his class with honors, Shaun secured multiple university acceptances and scholarships.
Driven to serve and explore the world, Shaun joined the U.S. Navy, where he completed specialized training with honors and served as an Avionics Technician for surveillance and reconnaissance squadrons. His dedication earned him the prestigious title of Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS), along with numerous commendations for his exceptional service. After completing his military career, Shaun earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from Western Washington University and even played minor league football in Washington State.
In 2007, Shaun moved to Canada and began a distinguished career in corrections, serving as a Correctional Officer and later as a Correctional Sergeant in Surrey, British Columbia. He played a key role in updating standard operating procedures, departmental transitions, and managing classification and gang intelligence roles. Transitioning to the private sector, Shaun excelled in upper security management, overseeing compliance with gaming regulations, training security teams, and managing critical incident drills at Vancouver’s prominent landmarks in coordination with law enforcement.
Shaun eventually pursued entrepreneurship, obtaining his real estate license and facilitating residential and commercial deals across North America. He is now pursuing a mortgage broker license while continuing to foster professional relationships in the industry. A lifelong learner and philanthropist, Shaun’s personal hobbies include reading, working out, classic movies, cooking, and participating in charity work and drives.
